On Friday, September 29th our Aboriginal Advocate, Rose Alexis, coordinated a gathering for Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a day where we recognize the survivors that attended residential schools. The GME students and staff gathered in a circle on our field - with our aboriginal students standing in the inner part of the circle. Our aboriginal students along with Ms. Alexis led us in the Okanagan Song, accompanied by their drums. This was followed by observing a Smudging Ceremony. Each class had submitted an intention and they were read aloud by Cathie Mutter, our Acting Principal. What a powerful time of reconciliation.
